  • The early settlers in this region, soon discovered the fertile soils on this island and quickly began building farms and raising livestock and establishing this as Quebec's food bowl. Jacques Cartier, the famous French explorer originally named this island, Ile de Bacchus due the abundance of wild grapes found, while the island's name has changed, the wine industry has flourished
